About Me

There's me doing a little gardening and goofing around with a pith helmet at a local garden store last summer. Come spring I get the urge to dig in the dirt a bit. I especially like to grow things I can eat.

My background with Warhammer is a short one. I remember some friends back in college picking up a starter pack and messing around with it for a couple of weeks. That was a time when various trash such as fast food drink holders were terrain, not garbage. I wasn't interested then..I was just getting into Magic the Gathering at the time. I did pick up the first Dawn of War RTS when it came out. I still play Dark Crusade from time to time until I realize Hard AI just means the computer zergs the shit out of you so bad that a human being is physically incapable of fielding it. But I digress.

So I started Warhammer in about Septemberish of 2015. Mik had recently opened the doors to Warhamer: Turkey Creek. To keep the story short - Mik was awesome at describing the game to me and as I left I was actually stressed out about what I was going to play. I figured 40k because that's what I was familiar with, but then what faction? An amazing thing too is that I never knew there was such a thing as Warhammer Fantasy.

A couple of weeks had passed and I observed some games going on in the store. I was playing different factions in the RTS to see what flavor I liked. I was also reading terrible, terrible reviews about this new Age of Sigmar that was out, and how it killed Warhammer Fantasy. I didn't understand it all because I don't have decades of background and politics to influence a viewpoint.

After talking to a few AoS players in the store I was assured that it was a fun and viable game. I decided to go fantasy. Swords, shields, and magic is more appealing to me than space guns. I love both, but I was seeing AoS as a Magic the Gathering equivalent with actual moving pieces in a 3D (perhaps 4D?) environment. Another deciding factor was start-up cost. I liked the idea of free warscrolls per unit and the idea that I could buy 1 box and play the game. If I hated it, I wasn't out much money.

That's really my story of why I started playing Age of Sigmar. I understand some of the opinions of long-time players. My wife and I have similar feelings toward World of Warcraft and pine for the challenges of Vanilla WoW sometimes. What I like is the accessibility and affordability of it. I have about 5 units toward an army, modeling supplies, and a buttload of paints, and I'm not bankrupt. It's all downhill now as I collect and build models at leisure and enjoy my Saturdays.

I absolutely love it and feel like this is something that I will stick with for a very long time. I enjoy the quiet time I spend with my wife modeling with Netflix on in the background. We spend a lot of time painting and aren't too shabby at it. I like to write too, and what better thing to write about than this new hobby of mine. I truly have a fresh perspective on this game, so I hope I can provide an interesting viewpoint for old and new players alike. I also look forward to learning and absorbing cool stuff from expert modelers and veteran players.
